The Dream Team: Loan Originators and Real Estate Agents

August 12, 2024 | Helpful

Buying a home can be overwhelming and laborious, but with a housing dream team, you can rest
assured that you will be well taken care of. Working with a reliable professional real estate agent and
Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) who collaborate well can help you move through your homebuying
process with ease. Continue reading to find out more about what each one does, the importance of
working together in the real estate market, and what to look for in your MLO and real estate agent.

What Does an MLO Typically Do?

MLOs are licensed mortgage industry professionals who are responsible for assisting homebuyers with
receiving a mortgage loan that fits their specific needs and circumstances. They guide them through the
whole mortgage process, keeping them informed every step of the way in order to ensure that
everything is moving smoothly and efficiently.

They are responsible for originating loans to finance or refinance a new, future, or remodeled home. In
order to do this, they typically first work with the homebuyer to help them pre-qualify or get pre-
approved for the right mortgage for them. Next, the homebuyer will usually submit documents such as
bank statements, pay stubs, etc. which a processer reviews to create the loan file. Underwriters then
review the loan to ensure that certain guidelines are met to issue a mortgage commitment. The MLO
then reviews the details and sends the Closing Disclosure for the borrower to review. The MLO keeps
their clients up to date, collects necessary documents, gets to know the homebuyer to get the best loan
for them, and helps them understand different rates and associated costs. With all that said, MLO’s
must be excellent communicators and incredibly diligent!

At Silverton Mortgage, we have the entire loan process in-house, from application to closing, to help
close loans faster. Our professional and personable MLOs pride themselves in educating and walking
you through your homebuying process so that you feel more at-ease and get the best experience and
loan for you. We want to work with you and your real estate agent to assist you better in the real estate market!

What Does a Real Estate Agent Typically Do?

Real estate agents are licensed professionals that aid in buying and selling homes for their clients. Like
MLOs, they must be knowledgeable about the current housing market, costs and rates, and recognize
the homebuyers’ needs.

When it comes to buying a home, real estate agents are often called buyer’s agents. Buyer’s agents
support homebuyers by showing properties that may be the best fit for them. They have to be flexible to
schedule viewings, be diligent in conducting property searches, keep the homebuyer informed and
educated, and even negotiate the best price range with the sellers or sellers’ agents. Last, but definitely
not least, real estate agents walk you through the closing process to help ensure a smooth closing and
transition into your new home. These agents play a key role in real estate transactions.

Better Service

A strong relationship between real estate agents and MLOs can make the entire homebuying process
smooth and efficient for everyone involved. When working together, the two can help you find home
options, get pre-approvals, prepare offers, and update the loan and homebuying process with ease. This cooperation is critical in the real estate journey.

Lenders and agents that work well together can also increase the trust between the two parties. On top
of that, they can share invaluable industry knowledge and resources with each other to continuously
provide better service.

Working with Trusted Professionals

Whether you are looking for a real estate agent or an MLO, make sure that they have the qualities that
you would want while buying a home: plenty of industry knowledge, reliability, efficiency, and clear
communication. When problems arise, they should be able to explain the situation and get it solved
quickly and painlessly. Both of the professionals should prioritize getting to know you in order to match
you with the right home and best loan for your needs.

Working with trusted professionals can allow for more individuals to achieve their lifelong goal of
owning a home. At Silverton, we prioritize your needs and who you are working with to make your
homebuying process as smooth as possible. We understand that everyone is different, so we want to
work with your specific needs and real estate agent to find your perfect fit. Don’t know where to start?
Connect with one of our MLOs today, and we will strive to find the best match for you! Our combined efforts in the real estate field can truly make a difference.
